3 Subscribers Get Content Free from Rhythm

February 27, 2008

Turner Broadcasting has begun distributing its mobile content, including Scooby Doo and Tom & Jerry, on an ad-funded basis to subscribers of mobile operator 3.

Consumers can watch episodes of the hit cartoons via the Planet 3 portal if they agree to be served a pre-roll video ad.

Turner is looking for new models to complement its existing premium downloads offering.

Rhythm New Media, which manages the ad-funded content area for 3, has previously agreed deals with media owners including ITN On and Ministry of Sound. It has also secured a set of advertisers including Emap, Lynx and Nivea.

In December, 3 claimed that more than 1m of its 4m subscribers had used the service in the first six months following its launch.
